About the Chapel
Originally
founded in 1840, the Presbyterian Church was built in 1851. In 1911
and 1912 the Church was renovated. The steeple was removed and a new
facade depicting Greek revival was created. The building was then
clad in the yellow brick, which you see today. This brick came in by
train and was used to build other historic sites through out
Madison. Other fine examples are the Court House and the Methodist
Church. The once Presbyterian Church has thirteen beautiful stained
glass windows some standing 20 feet tall and dating from the mid to
late 1800's. They are registered with the State as some of the
finest examples of historic stain glass windows in Florida. There is
a beautiful organ and a unique chandelier, which has over 100
crystals and six etched globes. The hard wood floors are heart of
pine and the pews are hand carved oak. The Church was used for the
funeral service of Colin P Kelly, the First World War II hero with
many dignitaries attending. We feel that there have been many
memories of past and present families which still linger in this
beautiful now restored wedding Chapel and we hope many more memories
to come.
